Student Council

Brief description of club/activity: The purpose of student council is to: plan special events or projects like homecoming week activities, dances, community service, blood drive, etc., develop positive attitudes and to practice good citizenship, promote harmonious relations throughout the entire school, improve student/faculty relationships and improve school morale and general welfare.

Eligibility Requirements: Any PHS student in good standing both academically and socially may run for election in student council.

Meets: Every Wednesday, during the school year @ 7:50 a.m. in the Auditorium (these meetings are mandatory—if 3 are missed the member will be replaced); six to eight summer meetings (June through August) and occasional special meetings throughout the year. Weekly meeting attendance is MANDATORY, as well as participation in event preparations and yearly service hours.

Fees: $40 fee 

Procedure for joining:  Any student wishing to run for PHS Student Council election must get a petition signed by 25 members of the students graduating class and have it turned in by the specified due date. The date to receive the petition will be in the spring during the school day for all 8th grade students. The entire student body will then have the opportunity to cast ballots to elect members.

Membership Limit: The council is made up of nine seniors; nine juniors; seven sophomores and seven freshmen.

Other Information: Be prepared to commit many hours before and after school, on Saturdays, and a few hours during the summer. Parental involvement is critical to the success of Student Council.
